Hints on getting the best results from Total Steel products

GAS CUTTING

  • To prevent cracking from cut edges on harder wear plate grades it is essential to prevent notches when cutting.
  • Avoid rapid cooling.
  • Avoid cooling multiple cut items in one bundle.
  • For good quality cutting on 360A and 780A grades, preheating to 150°C is recommended.

WELDING

  • Always use low hydrogen consumables.
  • Preheating is recommended prior to welding with all grades.

DRILLING

  • Always use adequate lubrication.
  • Ensure drill and job are secure.
  • Maintain constant feeds.

BENDING
  • Use correct bending radii.
  • On sharp bends and in cold weather, preheating can help workability.
  • Dress oxy cut edges with a grinder to remove HAZ prior to bending.
  • Wherever possible, roll and press across grain of material. Please advise your Total Steel representative when ordering so correct grain direction can be given.
